Emergency Health Wallet Card

WARNING: NOT KNOWING YOUR HEALTH
 INFORMATION COULD BE
DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH

If you did nothing except fill out and use your emergency health information wallet card, you would have dramatically reduced the margin for error in every aspect of your health care. In an emergency, even if you were unconscious, doctors who had never laid eyes on you before would be able to proceed without worrying about drug interactions and allergic reactions. They would have very good clues to help them make an accurate diagnosis.

The four-fold card provides a snapshot of family medical conditions such as cancer, early heart disease or diabetes; allergies to not only drugs but also foods and bee stings; medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes or osteoporosis; current medications and vitamins; immunizations; and specific health information like contact lenses or dentures. And it is not just the name of medicines that is important; your doctor needs the dose and directions. Everything you put in your mouth counts, so include daily medication and things such as Tylenol or Motrin that you take only once in a while. Blood type and basic biographical information are also included. Regardless of your age, having a living will and power of attorney for health care is also important. Your family doctor's contact information is also included. It comes with a plastic sleeve so you can include your health insurance card with the health information card too.

If you have a heart condition or an abnormal EKG (electrocardiogram), carry a copy of your EKG in your wallet as well. If you ever ended up in the emergency room, your old EKG may save you an unnecessary trip to the intensive care unit.

Most people are amazed at how little they know about their own bodies when they try to compile the most basic of health information. I encourage you to fill in the blanks with the help of your physician and to update the card regularly. Every time your medicine changes, please make note of it. Take the time to fill out a card for a family member or friend as well.

All the diagnostic and treatment breakthroughs in the world won't help if you don't have a list of your medical conditions, medications and allergies at the ready for anyone who might need that life-or-death data. As they say, "Don't Leave Home Without It".

The Emergency Health Wallet Card can be customized to include your company's logo or other customized information as well. A fifth fold in the card is added to include all the information you need.
