Marie Savard, M.D. is a nationally-recognized internist and women's health expert, author, and advocate for patient empowerment. She is author of the new book, Apples & Pears: the Body Shape Solution for Weight Loss and Wellness (Simon and Schuster, January 2005) and the acclaimed books, How to Save Your Own Life (Warner Books, Inc.) and The Savard Health Record (Time-Life, Inc.).
Dr. Savard earned her bachelors degree in nursing and her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She is former director of the Center for Women's Health and associate professor at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann Hospital, and was technical advisor to the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijeng, 1995). She has served on the American Board of Internal Medicine's Subcommittee on Clinical Competency in Women's Health and was a health columnist for Woman's Day magazine.
A trusted voice on women's health and patient empowerment issues, Dr. Savard has appeared on the Today show and been featured in dozens of national media outlets, including, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Newsweek, Glamour, Ladies Home Journal, Self, Fitness, Shape, Prevention and Health Magazine. She also speaks frequently before medical groups, corporations, women's groups and government hearings.
Dr. Savard currently serves as senior medical director of the Cabrini Nursing Home for missionary nuns and is the senior medical advisor to Lifetime Television's "Strong Medicine." Philadelphia Magazine has named her a "Top Doctor"multiple times in its annual reader survey.
Dr. Savard is a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Pennsylvania and of the Board of Overseers its School of Nursing. She serves on the guiding board of the National Coalition of Stroke and Heart Disease Prevention and is chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women.
