Live Radio Interview, WTOP, with Dr. Savard
Segment Focus: Importance of women taking charge of/being proactive with their healthcare. Following is a snip from the transcript:
BROWN: Now a recent study or survey that I heard about or read, said that women are more aware of say, breast cancer than men would be about prostate cancer. They’re aware of health issues. Why is that, you think?
DR. SAVARD: Well I think women have always been trained to go to the gynecologist and get the tests that they need. And actually, that brings up an important point. There’s a new-for example—a new and smarter Pap test. Something called the hDNA with Pap. It actually detects the virus that causes cervical cancer. There’s no cancer in men that we can diagnose the actual cause for which, where in women, there really is now in cervical cancer, a virus that we know causes cervical cancer. And we can get the smarter Pap test, the hDNA with Pap. It can screen for that. I think women are just more conscious of these kinds of tests and are accustomed to going to the doctor. And they need to just be more proactive and ask about these things.
