Beyond Sicko: Bioethics and Health Care Policy in the News

Join the Penn Alumni Club of Philadelphia for an engaging evening with Arthur L. Caplan, PhD, the nation’s leading bioethicist. Dr. Caplan will explain how Michael Moore’s latest movie, Sicko, fits into the health care policy debate, and share his views on the film. Dr. Caplan will explore pressing issues in bioethics and the role of health care policy in the coming elections. The evening is hosted by Penn Trustee and noted author and physician Marie Savard, MD. The talk will be followed by an opportunity for questions and answers and a light reception.

The Penn Alumni Club of Philadelphia welcomes members and guests to gather for this event on the beautiful top floor of Huntsman Hall. Arthur L. Caplan, PhD is the Emanuel and Robert Hart Professor of Bioethics, Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Caplan is the author or editor of twenty-five books and over 500 papers in refereed journals of medicine, science, philosophy, bioethics and health policy. His most recent book is Smart Mice Not So Smart People (Rowman Littlefield, 2006). He writes a regular column on bioethics for MSNBC.com. He is a frequent guest and commentator on various media outlets.

Marie Savard, MD is an internationally-recognized internal medicine physician, expert on wellness, and champion for patient rights.
